Why The Name Kirkoff?I think that I've answered this questing about 1,000,000 times. So, for the last time, here it goes again. My first experience on being connected to a remote computer system was on Prodigy classic around 1993. My brother, Jeff, was enrolled at Utah State. I couldn't spend much time on prodigy because the calls were long distance, so Jeff sent a list of local Virginia BBSes which I joined. Then at one point, I went to visit him out in Utah. He took me to a computer lab on campus, and we went on the Internet. He and I were on his account. We did gopher, talk, and something else. That was my first experience chatting. I had also chatted once or twice on Helms Deep, and a ton of times with The Wooly Mammoth, the SysOp of The Wooly Mammoth board. Shortly thereafter, MediaSoft opened in our area. We signed up, and got online. I could had learned how to use the World Wide Web, and E-Mail. We had signed up with MediaSoft in late spring 1994. That summer, I started looking for somewhere to chat. I didn't know about IRC or anything, so I went to yahoo, and searched for a way to chat. I found L'hotel Chat, which I think is still up here, it was a web chat. At the time it made itself look like a page that never finished loading so that it could keep appending lines of things people said. I was joining mainly with the nickname "Josh" as that's my first name, but I wanted to use something obscure and technical. I had a Huge, Thick electronics book with me there, and I opened it up to the middle.
I saw
Kirchoff's Laws Of Electronics. Which I read as Kirkoff's Laws Of Electronics. I then typed it in, and started chatting. The next time I chatted, I used the same nick. Soon I got Global Chat, a bad (at least at the time) IRC client, and used the nick Kirkoff. I've used it ever since. Only So, why Kirkoff? Well I misread Kirchoff, and made a nice little typo. I kept it because it is 7 characters long, so it fits in almost every field, like user names and such. The other thing is that almost no one else wants it. The only other person whom I've talked to has been some kid in middle school somewhere in the middle of the US, I don't remember exactly where. There you go. Congrats to franxo7 for being Person #3 to randomy guess why my nick is as Congrats also to Buckmnstr; he came in to #chatzone then ponged out. Now #4 is Brazil's. such!
